Current 50kWp community solar installation at Hinckley Academy

Friday 26 August 2016

Run by the Sun have a passion for helping community projects and are delighted to be installing a 50kWp solar PV system at Hinckley Academy.

Funded by a community share offer, the installation is a part of over £750,000 of renewable energy and CO2 lowering projects being installed at the Academy. Two types of solar modules have been used in both an East/West and South facing orientation; BenQ Solar and REC Solar. These together with a Solar Edge inverter system will allow the system to be closely monitored by Hinckley Academy science students.

The reason for the installation is that the Academy are replacing their old oil boilers with new gas boilers. These help reduce CO2, but they are still not perfect, the solar PV system will help to reduce the carbon footprint even further.

It is estimated that the 192 solar modules should generate over 40,000kWh of electricity per year! Additionally, after generating a return to the investors, the system should save approximately £1,500 per year. Throughout it's lifetime it will save a huge £30,000!

The project is well under way with the modules installed, and the system is ready to have the electrical connections made this week! The system should be complete by the end of the month.

We have over 20 years of experience in supplying solar PV systems to a range of community projects. These all range in size including allotment societies, schools, colleges, housing association properties and domestic charities.
